The James Graham Library
We are proud to announce Dalmunzie as Scotland & the United Kingdom’s first genealogy hotel. This hobby has been described as a ‘jigsaw puzzle without edges’ and once bitten, the genealogy bug can be a never ending quest! There are estimated to be 28 million people of Scots descent in the New World and they, along with Britons of Scots descent in the British Isles, are increasingly turning to the past to discover who they are, and where they come from.
Dalmunzie’s location in the heart of Scotland makes us a perfect base for guests who wish to visit the homes of their ancestors. We are equidistant between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness & Aberdeen all of which are approximately 2 hours drive from Dalmunzie. Within this area lies numerous castles, historic villages, ruins & scenic regions to visit.
The James Graham Library (named after the owners Great, Great Grandfather who migrated to Australia) is specifically designed to assist guests researching their ancestors. The Library has a wide array of facilities, including a computer with internet access, key websites for Scottish genealogy, relevant texts and software with an emphasis on Perthshire. There is also a good selection of books relating to Scottish history for the guest keen to learn about the background of their forebears homeland.
The Library is a very quiet retreat filled with antiques. The bureau, extending Victorian table and consul desk, will ensure there is plenty of space for you to spread your documents and get working, or to simply pore over an old book.
The Directors Scott ‘Graham’ Poole & Brianna Poole nee ‘Stewart’ are Australians of Scots descent with family on both sides originating from Perthshire, and Scott has been a member of the Australian Society of Genealogists for 15 years, specialising in Scots ancestry. Whilst we are unable to carry out specific research for guests we can help with their research by organising an expert through one of the following links.
For the guest looking to combine Dalmunzie whilst visiting other destinations relevant to their ancestors we strongly recommend ancestral roots travel using the link below.
The James Graham Library with its historic ambiance is also an ideal room for private dining. It has been utilised for small weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, re-unions and simply for friends who wish to dine together in a special place.
