Villages

Pretty villages and tourist towns can be found with little trouble.

NORTH

To the north in Royal Deeside is Braemar a delightful tourist village surrounded by dramatic scenery. Balmoral Castle, Bramaer Castle and the Lynn of Dee are all worth visiting and make a nice day out. The drive from Dalmunzie is only 20 minutes and goes over the Cairnwell pass. At 2200 feet this is Britain's highest road and is dramatic to say the least. Keep an eye out for Red deer as they are quite common along this road.

Another 15 minutes from Braemar past Balmoral is the pleasant town of Ballater . The station museum highlights Deeside's royal connections and the streets are lovely to stroll along with several antique shops. Glen Muick can be accessed from here with a lovely short walk to the loch a must.

WEST

To the west in Tayside is Pitlochry approximately 45 mimutes drive away. The road there takes you through Kirkmichael, a delightful small village worth a short visit itself and through Strathardle with its wonderful Highland scenery. Pitlochry has a lovely main street with many shops and many nearby places to visit. There is Edradour, Scotland's smallest and delightful whisky distillery and it's large neighbour Blair Atholl distillery with professional tours and tasting rooms. North of Pitlochry is the Killiecrankie Heritage centre with stunning forest walks to the Tay river. You can view 'soldiers leap' dating from the Battle of Killiecrankie which is nearby. Blair Castle is only a few minutes further north and is extremely impressive. Another mile or two brings you to the famed House of Bruar or 'Harrods of the North' as it is nicknamed. The shopping here is extensive and of a high standard. South of Pitlochry is the delightful town of Dunkeld. It's position on the river Tay, ruined cathedral and delightful Georgian cottages all combine to make Dunkeld a very special place.

SOUTH

To the south of Dalmunzie is Blairgowrie a 30 minutes drive. Here is an ancient market town centred around the historic Wellmeadow. The walks along the banks of the River Ericht are lovely.

Further south brings you to the bustling city of Perth on the river Tay. The old centre is full of shops and restaurants to enjoy.

EAST

To the east is Kirriemuir 40 minutes drive, a bustling Scots town with tightly woven streets. Glamis Castle is only a few minutes away with the driveway approach simply breathtaking. The road to Kirriemuir through Glen Isla is very pleasant with the angus glens all accessible.
